Gavin Micah Loy Schultz!!!!!

Our son was born on Halloween! (a whole month early!) His name is Gavin Micah Loy Schultz, he was born at 8:31 pm, at 6 lbs even and 19 inches long. He's a friggin pimp, just like his big "brudder". I miss my brother.....

Ok, for those of you who don't know, my brother is Spencer - the guy with the funny picture. I just got thinking of how much I miss him and the rest of my family. Sometimes I think that we take the genuine love and compassion that a family member gives us for granted. I love it that I can call anybody in my family and have them say "I love you" when they hang up and know they mean it. I miss Spence, I miss my mom, I miss my wonderfully pregnant sister-in-law, I miss my cousins. I am in a missing mood. You feel me?? Love you little brother..............

Morrison (2001-2005)

My lizard, Morrison, passed away yesterday around 2:30 PM. He was four years old. I have taken care of him practically since his birth. He has been with me throughout most of my time living in New Orleans. He is a part of my family.

Over the past month he stopped eating (and to go from three mice a week to nothing was enough of a shocker after two weeks to have him get a check up). Initially, although he was a little anemic and his red blood cells appeared darker and larger than normal, there was no certainty as to what Morrison had. He looked normal and was acting like himself in every other way. His coloring was fine and he still had his weight. We put him on antibiotics and hoped for the best.

On Monday night he had a fit and vomited. I dropped him off at the vets yesterday morning. By noon I received a call that Morrison’s situation was critical and the doctor did not know if he would even make it through the day.

The doctor believes that Morrison may have been suffering from leukemia, though the symptoms were so weird in this case that he is uncertain (I didn't even know lizards could get leukemia!). There will be an autopsy performed today in order to possibly help other reptiles who experience the same thing. The results will be shared with other veterinarians nationwide who treat reptiles.

I pick him up on Friday and plan to bury him Saturday morning, beneath the tree in my backyard he enjoyed climbing (the couple of times he was brave enough to actually go outdoors. He was definitely more of an indoor type reptile).

Although he was very quiet and did not want to be bothered much, keeping to himself in the indoor bushes or on the bookshelves, his presence is very missed. He had far more personality than I think most people credit reptiles with having, and was almost always friendly (or at least tolerant) regarding strangers petting or holding him.

My Weekly Movie Review - Batman Begins

It rocked, best of the Batman movies that are out there! Minus the classic Batman with Adam West in the movie when he has the shark on the helicopter ladder and he has Robin bring him the "Shark Repellent Bat Spray" (almost an oxymoron).

Anyhow the new movie laid out a great storyline that detailed further into the background of Batman and how he came to where he officially turned into the caped crusader. Not from just seeing hime as a kid then all of a sudden with all these cool tools and toys----it's a how-d-he-do-it story. But be aware that this is not like the other Batman movies that are all colorful, this is the darker portrayal, and darker filming that more closely resembles the comics, with a number of funny moments scattered thru the movie.

I was also impressed with Christian Bale's acting job, as I was with "American Psycho" (great crazy movie, comes on DVD the 21st this month). I just hope that he does not opt to not do another movie and they keep him on..... unlike all the others like Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney......the only person in the movie I am not a real big fan of is goofy Dawson Creek girl, there is not a lot of depth to her and her acting....just never really cared for her. She did her part in the movie, but nothing that stands out in my book.

So that is my general take on the movie, I don't ever want to give out any spoilers. I just thought as much as we enjoy seeing movies that a my semi-unbiased review may interest those who are on the fence of seeing a movie. Don't count on me writing a review for "Herbie Fully Loaded" any time soon.....uuuhhhh

I am looking forward to "War of the Worlds", looks very interesting, and I am eager to see how they interpret it on the Big screen!

Adventures as a Waiter

Perhaps being a corporate whore made me soft. Sitting before a computer for ten hours a day, mind rotting away on the internet as I projected being busy doing moot bullshit for a company I could not possibly care less about. Or if I could not get away with web surfing, letting my mind be polluted by the details of the job I was being paid to actually do. I gained about thirty pounds there (went from 135 to 167), found myself oftentimes depressed (I blame florescent lights, no windows in or near my workspace, and the collective apathy/disgust of fellow coworkers weighing my soul down; oh, and the job sucked; underpaid, underappreciated, micromanaged- I will NEVER work at another job where micromanagement takes place. Ah, micromanagement: possibly the most insulting thing supervisors can do just short of them attaching a strap on dildo to your forehead and forcing you wear MC Hammer pants and slap your dead grandmother with the rubber cock as you repeat "I think Celine Dion is a wonderful singer" in front of an audience of your enemies and every ex-lover you caught cheating on you with somebody uglier, more stupid and downright repulsive than you were ever even on your worst day). Oh, and as your doing this you must also watch whomever you are in love with or at least have a crush on in the present, point and laugh at you as he/she is having the proclaimed best nookie of their life with Vanilla Ice (your lover/crush tells you as much in orgasmic moans that Vanilla Ice is a way better sex monkey than you could ever be).

And maybe that is worse than micromanagement. Maybe.

Since 2001 I have been doing office work, just as a temp, but a temp with long term assignments. My last assignment lasted two years. By the end- I must admit- I enjoyed my job to some extent. My job duties shifted and I became a super special investigator in the customer invoicing department who had the primary task of figuring out how much to charge customers who were cheating at their bills. But even with the perks of being an "investigator," the other elements of an unhappy and unhealthy workspace took their toll.

So leaving the environment was hardly a let down.

I completed my last temp job in early May. For the past few weeks I have been doing a job search, wanting to avoid further office work, but feeling though the cost of living demands I return to the corporate whore environment (at least until I finish school and become a teacher). I mean, I can do it if I believe in the work I am doing, but most big companies are essentially heartless monsters bent on increasing revenue at whatever ethical cost they can get away with. Go rent _The Corporation_ (a beautiful, stunning and sometimes shocking documentary regarding big business), that is, if you have yet to see it.

But I do digress here, sort of...

Well, time to change the type of work I do. I get an opportunity to switch gears and become a waiter and light bartender at a restaurant/club I hang out at all the time. I like the people who work there, am actually friends with the other staff who would be working during my shift, so fuck it; why not?

The initiation.

Yesterday was my first night on the job. I have never waited on a single table in my entire life until this point, and although I felt- at least to some degree- that I tipped well and have always appreciated the waiter/waitresses workload, I don't think I really understood what a thorough ass kicker this type of customer service can be until now.

My tables were on the second floor. The kitchen is on the first floor. The pathway is a steep staircase that curves. I now know those stairs better than I ever possibly thought one could be familiar (I probably went up and down those things 60 times last night...I'm going to lose weight in no time, get back down to maybe 140 with extra muscular legs). The AC kind of, sort of works but the heat overpowers, especially when the workfloor is crowded (and it was packed last night). Did not think I could sweat that much.

I'm glad I wore all black. So long as I do this job I will try and wear black all the time. Nobody wants to be waited upon by somebody with visible sweat stains.

I have learned that many people do not know how to properly tip. Some people were fine, even generous, but I am sorry, when your bill is $35.00 you do not only tip your waiter three bucks. That's just not right. Especially when they had nothing to complain about (they even tell you everything was great), the food was out quickly, their water was full and they had sufficient libations to quench any alcohol lust.

However, one girl didn't have enough money to give me a tip at all; was only able to just barely pay for the food. She was obviously embarrassed. I told her not to worry about it, that she could just get me next time. She came back about three hours later (after making a run to an ATM), and gave me a 50% tip. Nice.

Did not have any outright assholes. One hipster couple with tattoos and piercings (I think the guy was in some rock band I am supposed to give a crap about), were a little curt with me and acted like it was my fault the only wine we had was merlot (the girl tells me merlot is shit, I shrug and smiled in return). But they were nothing worth stressing over.

I learned that I'll be doing some bartending, too (when initially offered the job, I thought I would just be waiting tables. As it turns out there will be about a three to four hour window during which I will be by myself. Tonight I will be alone for a few. Uh oh ). Anyhow, I drink beer. I know beer. I know NOTHING about mixed drinks. Some I should have no problem fixing, say rum and coke (and other such self-fucking-explanatory concoctions). Others, well, who knows; I'm looking over a Bartender's Bible today.

I think the highlight for me was waiting on a table of five beautiful women, and the one who- if in an alternate reality where I was NOT happily married would have definitely, definitely talked to- found the most attractive (I mean like holy crap goddamn hot), kept hitting on me. Over the top flirting. I was flattered, plus a little embarrassed (she'd tell her friends how cute and hot I was as I took each of their orders). But you know, it was nice to know after being off the market for several years now I still got a little something something for the eye candy.

And she tipped well!

I told my wife about the girl after my shift was over. She said, "Of course you're hot! Duh." My wife is cooler than Jesus.

And so anyhow, my body is pretty fucking sore right now, my clothes from last night have new, unholy stains (possibly permanent here and there), and I made less money than I would have doing the same hours as a corporate whore. I am a little nervous (read: scared) about being alone to work from 5-9 (the upstairs bartender gets in at 9) with no in person assistance/input (though I can call the girl who trained me if I have any questions). And I am not even close to being familiar with the variety of Thai dishes I'm serving (do not test me on the difference between "Evil Jungle Chicken" and "The Bird of the Golden Mountain," because you will be sorely disappointed by my ignance).

But I am feeling pretty good.

I like being working class.

I like feeling like I really earned my money, with no ethical issues regarding the objective of my job.

Okay, I need to get some more sleep. Busy night ahead.

I think this is the only way I can truely discribe the way I am feeling. In a week from today (monday) it will be my very last day at work here. Then Tueday-I start....I start this adventure!!! I'm SOOOOOO excited and SOOOOOO scared I just don't know what to do with myself (that's where the pee part comes in)........Sadly-I will hardly see or speak to some of you....this does NOT mean I have forgotten you-or that I hate your stinkin guts and hope tics infest your bedroom while your sleeping at night and lay their eggs in your ears...........yea-I know, it's gross........it just means that I'm tryin to work and improve on Lisa.....I'm tryin to get my shit together everyway I can think of.......I will stop by to say hello-let you know of some random stuff I was thinkin of to leave some odd image burned into your brain (think of the tic eggs in your ears as you dream) let you know what's goin on, and no I don't care if you want to know or not...I'm gonna type it anyways. Dream meanings...

Ok, so I had this long, drawn out, very real dream. I have theories on what it means, but I am wondering if anybody else has an ideas or just thinks dreams are dreams with no meaning.
This is how it went...............I was out on a weekend get-away with my family when I realize that, even though I had moved into a new house last week, that I had left a bunch of stuff behind at my apartment. My family and I drive to the apartment and find, ironically, that the door is unlocked. We go inside and find my stuff. The things I had left behind were the most important things, like my washer and dryer, my entertainment system, my dishes, my telephone, my fridgerator. We (my family and I) got in a huge fight and they kept telling me that I didn't need this stuff anymore and that life would be ok without them. Then I found these weird angels in a corner and felt that if I only was able to take one thing, it had to be the angels. Then.........the house phone rings (and I think, wow, that is weird, I had the phone service shut off) and it is the new tenants to the apartment wondering why I left all my shit behind. I end up staying behind, renting a U-haul and taking all my stuff with me without the help of my family. I did it alone.

So........meaning? No meaning? I am going nuts? I just thought it was weird and so very real. Colorful, emotional, the whole sha-bang. Any thoughts?

...Ok-So Isaiah and i go see this movie last night. I honestly had no idea what it was about-I had just seen the previews for it and noticed a ton of famous actors and actresses so I thought....might be a good one.....so we go and see it.

"Crash," was the movie we went and saw..........let me tell you.....it made me really think. Blew my FREAK'n mind-seriously.......you'd just have to go watch it to understand. I was teary eyed on and off through out the whole movie. AND-I don't mean teary eyed as in-OH A LOVE STORY-how sweet.....I mean teary eyed as in reality.....WOW-that's all I can say is WOW......go see it.......really intense movie.....

Tribe is going more corporate?!

There was a bitch on My Tribe today about Tribe selling out. IT was from a long-time member who was dissatisfied with a Bank Whore America (oops, OF) banner ad on the right side.

Warren S, the Tribe TOU Watchdog, assured us on a previous post this was not happening, but I would say it does not get more corporate than BofA.

I am curious for my own marketing efforts: Would you rather have banner ads, or a subscription-based membership? If it were subscription, what would you pay per month for this service?

At what point would you stop using Tribe on the same level of frequency which you do today?

First thing first: Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Today is my last day working for Corporate Whore, Inc. Friday I shall be unemployed like many Americans. No prospects, but I'm not too worried.

I'm really not on the computer much at home, soooo, I probably won't be posting as much to The Blender anymore. I'd like to stay away from future work in offices, which also means away from being online with any regularity. These places are unnatural and unhealthy...well, at least for me. Of course, if it's a job I believed in, that's one thing...but if you knew what I did to pay the bills right now...

*shakes head*

*Finishing my novel. It's a book that's been haunting me for about four years now. It's about New Orleans and Hindu gods. It's about time.

*Getting back into regular yoga and meditation (I have soooo slacked off this year).

*Getting back into drum practice. At one point I felt pretty good about playing for bellydancers (was even filmed for television once, though it was cut for the final edit...bastards), but eh, lately my doum-ka-doum-tek is a wee bit stank. And my finger rolls...egads!

Ah, and in 2006 I'm going back to college after a six year break to become a public school teacher. My universe gets progressively stranger. Can I continue my rock star lifestyle, filled with fast cars, danger, fire and knives AND cultivate young minds to be productive members of society?!?

We shall see.

So, anyhow, it's been fun here. Really. And I'm still around, but I'll just be ghosting it for the most part. Don't be a stranger, though. Holler at me and I'll always holler back.

Alright, lately, I've been listening to a lot of...

*Kaiser Chiefs - _Employment_ (I feel like I should hate them, I don't know, some Generation X bullshit, but the truth is, I think this is a really solid album. Reminds me of the best of Madness and Blur)

*Mos Def - _The New Danger_ (I've heard some complain that this shit went too far into the rock and blues arena, but I don't know, I don't see it. I like albums that cross genres. I still think this is Hip Hop. I think it was well done. This is one of the few CDs I've heard in a while that I can listen to from beginning to end. That's rare. Please check it out).

*Pigeon John & The Set Trippin Trio - _Sings The Blues_ (This will be found in the Hip Hop/Rap section at Tower or Virgin, but I feel that the CD does cross genres...a little. I'm loving this CD. Think Pharcyde meets PM Dawn. Good stuff.)

This morning I decided to unsubscribe from about half the tribes I've been connected to, mostly because I rarely check them out, hardly ever contribute, and although it's free, it just seems silly to be a member of something on which I don't participate.

Also removed a good number of people from my friends list. Went from 89 to 53. Simply chose to remove those with whom I've had either no contact with or such little contact that being in their network seemed moot.

Purging.

good news: the reason i cant go is cause i'm going to the deep south for 2 weeks.

so... ken and i know some of the places we'll be (new orleans, seaside- where they have new urbanist communities-, savannah ga, atlanta ga.... the rocky mountains, appalachia... and i think that's it. oh, and wherever debbie lives in florida. she's on the way! :)) but there's a lot we haven't figured out yet.

anyone been/lives to/in the deep south? we want to go to some backwoods areas, small towns, places where they still lynch brown, yellow, and black people. we want alligators and mint juleps and illiteracy. as for new orleans, anything cool there other than the cemeteries and the garden district? we're not into the bourbon st. shenanigans.... any bona fide voodu folks??

My adventure during lunch...

I've posted this on a few tribes, now. It's sort of political, but I'm really not trying to push any agenda, I swear! It just made me laugh...

So I went out to lunch today.

At a strip mall.

As I'm preparing to leave the mall, a woman standing behind my car yells, "So, what, you hate America?!" At first I didn't think this was directed at me. I turn to look and yep, I'm the one she is questioning.

I reply, "Excuse me?"

She repeats, "You hate America?!" This time she points to the John Kerry sticker attached to the rear window. I also have a few other bumper stickers, including one for "Eracism" and "New Orleans Proud to Call it Home," but those don't upset her, I guess.

She tells me that her husband is a Vietnam Veteran.

I reply, "My Dad is a Veteran, too. I guess we're even, then. You have a good day."

I climb into my car and hear her yell, "Fuck you, Muhammad!"

I wear a kufi, not because I'm Muslim, I just like the way kufis look. But I reckon that leads her to believe I follow Islam.

I reply, "Your mama." And drive away.

Mental note: never get lunch at a strip mall, again.

I am not necessarily proud of my response, but I did find this whole ordeal funny and thought it was worth sharing.

Over the week-end I learned about the significance of 4/20 to all the Berkley type hippie people who love to indulge in the natural herb. Apparently today is a day of great smoking because the best time of day to do it is 4:20. So on 4/20 there are parties just for doing that. Crazy the stuff you learn when you thought you were in the know for years....................................................

Apocalypse Camowl

I love the smell of animal crackers in the morning.

But I've been unusually busy all day, so I wasn't able to get my fix until just a few minutes ago.

I have some potentially disturbing news to share with you folk...

Inspecting my bag of Austin's Animal Crackers (who have made fine cookie treats since 1932...'nuff respect), I found penguins, lions, rabbits, sheep, elephants and horses (unsure what criteria an animal must pass to be honorfied as an animal cracker), but anyhow...

I only found ONE camel that was missing its head!

And NO owls!

I fear that this may be a bad omen. Aye, the skies do look darker and I have just developed a strange rash. I now hide in my cubicle, watching the heavens and thinking of doom, crackheads and Celine Dion (who I am certain from my years of theological study is Death of the Four Horsemen).

Have I displeased Her? (not Celine Dion, I mean the Camowl)

Does She no longer love me? (again, not Celine Dion, but the Camowl)

It's official: I'm scurred and have no smoke!

I am scared of....

* Clowns
* Bees, wasps, hornets - all those pesky things
* Cartoons - especially the animation that looks "real"
* Being alone forever
* Never using my uterus as a growing medium (aka - never having kids.
* The big animal-like things at Chucky Chesse
* Movies like Nightmare Before Christmas (they just plain freak me out, so I am hoping I wil get over it so I can watch Corpse Bride, cuz thats Johnny Depp and that changes everything)

I am sure I will add more later, but I was dreaming about weird stuff and can't stop thinking of scary things this morning (or this afternoon - I am a late riser on my days off).

Feeling sick....

....I don't know why I insist on looking at such things. I was looking at baby seals and stuff and I came across some pictures of then getting clubbed. Why I don't just move on and ignore the pictures, I insist on looking at them in horror and wonder way? How could ANY body stand face to face with this creature looking up at you and kill it. I feel bad for squishing bugs.....I guess that the type of person I am. I don't understand how people have enough guts to do it. I don't know how they can feel good about it. It's the same thing with hunting. How can you hide in a shrub-spot this HUGE magnificent creature and shoot it. I don't understand. These are just thoughts and wonders of the minds of humans who are able to do this and not even flinch...not even think twice. It frightens me......BUT-I guess I'm just a big ol softy when it comes to stuff like that........I'm seriously feeling ill right now....

Call Me Ishmael...

Okay, a new story that is 100% crackhead free.

Just came back from lunch. Went outside because it's just such a freaking beautiful day. Reading Stephen King's _'Salems Lot_ (very good by the way, though I'm indifferent about vampires).

An older couple (maybe in their 70s) are walking past where I sat. The woman exclaims, "Ishmael, Ishmael! Oh, Ishmael!" The man says, "Well, I'll be!"

They invade my personal space and ask, "Ishmael?"

I look up and raise an eyebrow, "I'm sorry. I'm not Ishmael."

The woman disagrees, "Oh, Ishmael."

I repeat, "I'm not Ishmael."

The man says, "You sure you're not Ishmael?"

I reply, "Last time I checked, nope."

They continue to stand there, staring, perhaps I'll decide to be Ishmael after all?

I apologize, "Sorry, must look just like him, I guess."

And they still stand there. Uncertain. Maybe I lie?

The woman lets out an, "Oh." And they walk away. I do hope they find him.

As I write this I realize this perhaps doesn't sound particularly strange, but it was weirder in person than most of my adventures with crackheads.

Per Joy's suggestion, I present my depiction of the Camowl, image uploded in the photos section.

I'm not much of an artist (so I'd rather just steal and manipulate other images), and all I had to work with was the standard paint program, but I do believe I have done Her some justice.

I may submit others, when I'm under the influence of Her (meaning that I'm either drunk or...).
